Preview: Paladin Classic at Furman

On Saturday-Sunday, April 26-27, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Paladin Classic at Furman University Golf Club. Furman, home of the Furman University Paladin men’s and women’s golf teams, is a classic course with tricky greens for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 63 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

The Bell Division field features 29 golfers, highlighted by 14 of the top-100 players on the PKBGT Performance Index, including: Payton Schanen (Milton, GA 2015) ranked 6th, Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) ranked 26th, Annika Bovender (Mt. Pleasant, SC 2015) ranked 27th, Grace Massengill (Hickory, NC 2016) ranked 28th, Savanah Goodman (Easley, SC 2016) ranked 29th, Allison Cooper (Harrisburg, PA 2015) ranked 36th, Emily Salamy (Williamsburg, VA 2015) ranked 53rd, Carly Burkhardt (Greenville, SC 2016) ranked 65th, Haylee Harford (Leavittsburg, OH 2015) ranked 68th, Victoria Huskey (Greenville, SC 2016) ranked 69th, Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) ranked 88th, Megan Sabol (Martinez, GA 2016) ranked 91st, Lauren Lightfritz (Suwanee, GA 2016) ranked 97th, and Savannah Hallman (Mt. Pleasant, SC 2014) ranked 99th.

The Futures Division field features 34 golfers, highlighted by 12 of the top-30 players on the 2014 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) in 1st position, Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) in 2nd position, Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) in 4th position, Alyssa Montgomery (Knoxville, TN 2019) in 8th position, Woo Wade (Dunwoody, GA 2019) in 9th position, Rachel Kuehn (Asheville, NC 2019) in 10th position, Melanie Burgess (LaSalle, ONT 2016) in 13th position, Madison Branum (Lexington, SC 2018) in 18th position, Miranda Lassiter (Chesapeake, VA 2016) in 21st position, Ciaran Carlile (Evans, GA 2015) in 23rd position, and Peyton Gillespie (Greenville, SC 2019) and Faith Parker (Charlotte, NC 2018) tied for 27th position.

The Paladin Classic brings together players from event brings together players from Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Ontario, Canada. It should be a great tournament!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
