Recap: Thompson wins Seahawk Classic

On Tuesday, July 22, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Seahawk Classic at the Country Club of Landfall (Nicklaus Course-Marsh & Pines). Due to torrential thunderstorms on Monday, the tournament was only 18 holes. The course is home to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington golf teams and was a great course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 30 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division-Prep Series, there was a four-way tie for first place between Caroline Cahill (Wilmington, NC 2017), Joliana Elias (Jamestown, NC 2015), Jessica Kittelberger (Raleigh, NC 2014), and Kayla Thompson (Clarkton, NC 2014) who all shot eight over par each with scores of 80. On the first hole of the sudden-death playoff, Thompson hit her second shot to four feet and made a easy birdie putt to win the tournament.

In the Futures Division, there was a two-way tie for first place between Hannah Rose Bruxvoort (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) and Taylor Cozart (Taylorsville, NC 2016) who both shot 14 over par each with scores of 86. Bruxvoort proved triumphant winning the first hole of the sudden-death playoff.

With their victories, Thompson and Bruxvoort received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions , and with their runner-up finishes, Kittelberger and Cozart received class C exemptions. PKBGT returns to action on Monday, July 28 with the One-Day Open Series @ Forest Oaks CC in Greensboro, NC. The event brings together players from North Carolina and South Carolina.
