Recap: Sonoda, Wenmoth win One-Day at Rocky River

On Sunday, August 2, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Rocky River Golf Club. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field 42 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Prep Series, Sarina Sonoda (Florence, SC 2015) shot a three over par 75 to place first and chipped-in for birdie on the 18th hole to win the title by one stroke over Madison Isaacson (Greensboro, NC 2018) who shot a four over par 76.  Madison Branum (Lexington, SC 2018) and Muskan Uppal (Cornelius, NC 2019) both shot six over par each with a scores of 78 to tied for third.

In the Futures Series, Emilee Wenmoth (Clemmons, NC 2017) and Jordan Young (Winston-Salem, NC 2016) both shot seven over par each with scores of 79. Wenmoth won a two-hole sudden-death playoff to place first. Nyilah Anderson (Durham, NC 2016), Madison Cross (Hickory, NC 2016), and Meghan McPeak (Chapel Hill, NC 2017) all shot 10 over par each with scores of 82 to tie for third.

PKBGT returns to action on Monday-Wednesday, August 10-12 with the SRIXON TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP @ Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC. The event brings together players North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. The event is ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings and is the final championship tournament of the 2015 season. Who will be golden?..
