Preview: Tar Heel Classic at UNC Chapel Hill

On Saturday-Sunday, March 7-8, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the Tar Heel Classic at the UNC Finley Golf Club. Finley GC, home of the UNC Tar Heels women’s golf team, is a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field 90 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf. The event is ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings and is the largest classic tournament of the season.

The Bell Series field features 54 golfers, highlighted by 19 of the top-50 players on the PKBGT Performance Index, including: 2013 and 2014 defending champion, Emilia Migliaccio (Cary, NC 2017) who is ranked 1st, Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, NC 2016) ranked 2nd, Jessica Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) ranked 3rd, Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) ranked 4th, Jennifer Chang (Cary, NC 2018) ranked 5th, Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) ranked 6th, Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) ranked 8th, Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015) ranked 9th, Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017) ranked 15th, Maddy McDanel (Aliquippa, PA 2016) ranked 16th, Caroline Curtis (Richmond, VA 2019) ranked 17th, Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) ranked 22nd, Grace Yatawara (Salisbury, NC 2016) ranked 24th, Rhea Bhatia (Wake Forest, NC 2015) ranked 25th, Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) ranked 31st, Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) ranked 43rd, Abbey Hartsell (Hickory, NC 2015) ranked 46th, Elizabeth Nguyen (Pinehurst, NC 2017) ranked 48th, and Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) ranked 49th. Other standout players in the field include: Lauren Lightfritz (Suwanee, GA 2016), Jacinta Pikunas (Youngstown, OH 2017), Aneka Seumanutafa (Frederick, MD 2019), and Amy Wooten (Clinton, NC 2018).

The Futures Series field features 36 golfers, highlighted by seven of the top-20 players on the 2014 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Carley Rudolf (Virginia Beach, VA 2019) in 1st position, Emily Anderson (Matthews, NC 2017) and Madison Isaacson (Greensboro, NC 2018) tied for 5th position, Sophie Holland (Cornelius, NC 2020) in 9th position, Lauren Freyvogel (Gibsonia, PA 2019) in 16th position, and Alisa Caraballo (Troutville, VA 2019) and Jacqueline Cherry (Ellicott City, MD 2018) tied for 20th position.

The Tar Heel Classic @ UNC Finley Golf Club brings together players from event brings together players from Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.. It should be a great tournament!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
