Recap: Playoff! Defending Champion, Kathryn Carson Wins the PKBGT Open Championships Presented by Bargray Clothing

On Monday, May 29, the 2017 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the final round of the PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS at Country Club of Salisbury. Salisbury, home of the Catawba College women’s golf team, is a tricky course for this three-day tournament. The event features a field 86 players from Bell and Futures Series of the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour . The event, ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings, is the third championship tournament of the 2017 season. 

Playoff! Defending Champion, Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) and Isabella van der Biest (Kingsport, TN) finished the day tied with a three day total of 220. The playoff went to the 18th hole where both girls hit great drives. Isabella over shot the green with her approach while Kathryn hit the center of the green. Isabella hit a great recovery chip but failed to make the par putt allowing Carson to two putt for the win. Finishing in third was Emily Hawkins (Lexington, NC 2018) with her score of 74 today giving her a three day total of 222. In fourth place was Diana Christina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) who also shot 74 today to give her a three day total of 224. Rounding out the top five was Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, NC 2017) with a round of 72 today finishing the tournament with a total of 227. 

Winning the Futures Series was Loralie Cowart (Winston, GA 2021) with a three day total of 227. Loralie is a wire to wire winner this weekend after coming out in the first round shooting even par and never looking back. She went into today with a three shot lead and fought off a great charge by the runner -up finisher this weekend, Maria Atwood (Holly Springs, NC 2022).  Atwood was the low round for the futures today with a score of 74, pushing her up the leader board into second place, and a three day total if 229. Finishing in third was Cindy Song (Waxhaw, NC 2023) with a final round score of 80 and a three day total of 231. In fourth place with a round of 80 today was Hannah Nall (Cleveland, TN 2022) putting her three day total at 233. Rounding out the top five was Alyssa Cox (Mount Airy, NC 2019) and Jessica Rathbone (Montpelier, VA 2020) both finishing the tournament of a three day score of 236.
